Leaders build leaders, not followers...
In a higher position, you might be more like a leader than a manager, or more like a manager than a leader… in both cases, you can do well, you can be successful and even great but not exceptional. You can’t be exceptional or phenomenal unless you have the qualities of both a leader and a manager which I call “leager”.
LEAGER is a new business term I have developed, and it is a combination of the first part in LEAder and the second part in manaGER.
So when you are a leager, you are a leader and a manager at the same time. Here comes a question "Who do you lead and who do you manage?" The answer is “You lead others and you manage yourself”.
It is an internal and external process. Managing yourself is internal, and leading others is external. Remember, your team doesn't want you to manage them but to lead them to achieve what they can’t do on their own.
So practically speaking, leaders could be so many, managers might be more, but leagers are definitely few.
Finally, by introducing the term “leager”, I don’t cancel the term “manager” as a title or a position in an organization; I am just talking about “function”.
